Lampwork Glass Artist and Jewellery Designer

Lampwork & Fusing Tuition

Lampwork is an ancient art form, once performed using oil lamps.  These days we use specialised blowtorches.  My studio is equiped with 2 torches and lampwork work stations.  A Nortel and a GTT Lynx and all of the latest equipment required for safe, fun bead-making!

I  have bench space and torches for tuition for two people. Please ask for details of discounts when two people are booked on a course at the same time.

If you have an hour to kill, you can come and play with fire for an hour and make a couple of beads - I call it my Lampwork Teaser session.  It costs £25 and booking is not always necessary!

I offer a one to one taster session, consisting of three hours of learning about equipment, glass, safety, and of course making beads.  You will be sent the beads you make during your session after they have been kiln annealed, plus any I make for demonstration purposes.  The taster is bookable in advance and because the tuition is on a one to one  or one to two basis, I can be very flexible on dates and times.  The taster session is £65 per person and includes all materials and personal protective equipment.

My taster tuition vouchers are popular and are a unique  gift and I can send them directly to the recipient with your message if it's a gift or you can purchase a printable voucher and pay by Paypal or card payment over the phone, so a visit isn't necessary if you are not local to my studio!

As an alternative, I offer a longer session of tuition for the beginner.  During the five hour session, we cover everything that you would learn in a taster but in more depth and we will also cover more techniques and of course, make more beads!

This is an intense course, designed to give you the confidence to set-up your own bead-making equipment but be warned, glass is a very addictive hobby!  The cost of the day is £130 and all materials are included. This also includes having your beads posted to you after they have been annealed and cleaned.

In addition to beginner bead-making tuition, for more experienced bead makers, I can offer sessions tailored to your needs if there is a particular technique you would like to learn.  For these, you must have either had a full-day course or lampwork experience.  Price will be dependent on the course.

If you can demonstrate bead-making experience, I can offer torch time at £15 per hour.  Use of equipment, tools are included.  You may bring your own glass or purchase from the studio.

Fusing Tuition

I am now offering one to one tuition for fused glass.  The way it works is different from most fused glass classes in that you focus on a project, instead of making coasters!

You can choose from a variety of projects, or bring a design of your own (to be agreed with Jo prior to the session).  During the session, you will learn how to transfer your design from drawing board into a practical design; learn how to cut glass, use a ring saw and a grinder, learn to assemble your design with a variety of glass products and glass accessories and finally, learn about glass process temperatures in kiln-formed glass creations.

It can be as simple or as complex as you like. The cost will depend on the project you want to complete.  For example, a large seahorse sun-catcher session will cost £60.  For a bowl or panel, it will be from £75. This includes all materials and use of tools and tuition - and hot/cold drinks and snacks.

Projects include glass painted projects, mermaid wall hanging, tea light wave or a bowl.  Most projects may require more than one visit to the studio.

Please message if you are interested to discuss projects and dates and prices.

To secure a booking full payment or a non-refundable 20% deposit is required, the balance to be paid on the day.
